Jean-Marc Connerotte, sacked from the Dutroux investigation before it ever really got off the ground.
The problem here was that Sabine and Laetitia, the girls he had personally rescued from Dutroux’s dungeon, were present at this meeting as guests of honor. The lawyers of Dutroux and Nihoul had gotten wind of this visit and began a successful procedure to remove Connerotte, arguing that the examining magistrate had shown with this visit that he wasn’t carrying out his investigation objectively enough.
Connerotte barely stayed an hour, but with this visit he and Bourlet (who also went) made yet another effort to change the consensus view that the justice department wasn’t interested in parents of missing children or victims of child abuse.
